We asked Julie and Lori to each give us five colors for their 2025 Color of the Year palette. The catch? They aren’t allowed to see or discuss their five colors before submitting. Before reading, do you think their color palettes are identical like the sisters or complete opposites?
Julie and Lori said that their color palettes were going to be complete opposites. Let’s see if we surprise one or both of them with their respective selections.
Julie’s 2025 Color of the Year Palette
Julie has a deep passion for earthy tones and colors – forest and mossy greens to traditional deep browns with pops of soft color that make any space feel inviting. We expect Julie to stay true to her “roots” with her 2025 color of the year picks with maybe a surprise or two for us.
This year Julie was attracted to the whipped decadence of Mocha Mousse by Pantone. Honestly, who wouldn’t be? It’s a perfect pairing of traditional browns with a touch of softness that elevates other darker richer colors.
Interior design can be a complex process when it comes to selecting paint colors. But when Julie picked the color Fire Clay from York Wallcoverings as part of her 2025 Color of the Year selections, we knew immediately that this fire and earth infused color could be a tremendous accent color to anyone’s home.
Sticking with bold, deep colors Julie’s next pick is Dark Navy from Behr. According to Julie, “every color palette needs a Navy and Behr’s Dark Navy is so versatile – I can incorporate the color in small or large ways for my customers’ designs”.
Julie has picked some dark and slightly surprising colors so far, but she’s softening her palette with Pearly White from Sherwin-Williams. This gently off-white tone is “elegant on its own or a lovely way to help darker hues stand out.”
Last, but certainly not least for Julie, a green. And not just any green, but a green that will revitalize your space to feel elegant and comfortable all at once. Julie’s last color is Rainy Afternoon by Benjamin Moore.
We asked Julie what color she thought Lori stayed away from. She said, “I doubt Lori would go for a green”. How well does she know her twin sister?
Lori’s 2025 Color of the Year Palette
Anyone who’s met or worked with Lori knows that she is not shy about her favorite color – purple, specifically a lilac purple. When this request was given to Lori, we expected a variety of purple colors, mixed with some neutrals. And while there is of course one purple in Lori’s 2025 Color of the Year palette, she surprised us with her beautiful variety.
Starting off with her first color Cola, by Farrow & Ball, is a beautiful deep mixture of dark brown and red that provides warmth perfect for a study, cigar lounge, or wine cellar.
Next, Lori’s unsurprising selection, a perfectly pretty soft purple. Silver Peony by Sherwin-Williams is everything Lori looks for in her purples. A dash of silver mixed with her favorite Lilac color, Silver Peony is a calming purple best suited for a bedroom, living room, or any other space you enjoy a calming sensation.
Dark blues can be a hit or miss when it comes to wall colors, but it’s always a hit when J&L helps bring your vision to life. Lori’s next pick is a home run. The “mysterious deep blue-black” of Black Sapphire by Behr is both sexy and sophisticated.
Much to Julie’s surprise (and pleasure), there is a green topping Lori’s 2025 Color of the Year palette! Jasper by Sherwin-Williams is an intense dark emerald that adds depth to any space. The color really is a gem for anyone looking to elevate their home.
Last but certainly not least, Lori picked the neutral color Manchester Tan by Benjamin Moore. This delightful neutral is the perfect compliment to the additional colors Lori has added to her 2025 Color of the Year palette.
Just like Julie and Lori, their color palettes were similar but different to their own unique tastes. When looking at their selections side by side, each designer picked a deep brown, a dark blue, a moody green, and an off white neutral to round off their 2025 Color of the Year palette. As it turns out, the twin-sister design duo has more in common than they even thought. And whether you align to Lori’s deeper palette or Julie’s more natural palette, the J&L team is here to help you pick the right colors for your home and interior design style.
