Magnet Virtual Summit 2025 Capture the Flag

Hi! This is Jessica Hyde and I am so excited to announce the exciting plans for the Magnet Virtual Summit Capture the Flag (CTF) powered by Hexordia. I have been having a blast working with our amazing interns Yehuda Bollen, Adam Hachem, Cece Ehgotz, Fatima Omerovic, James Cangelosi, and Nathan Kreit from the Champlain Digital Forensics Association. Additionally  multi-CTF Champion Kevin Pagano has joined the group building this year’s CTF!

What is the Magnet Summit Capture the Flag contest?

It is a gamified learning opportunity to test your skills with digital forensics challenges. Forensic Images of multiple pieces of evidence are made available to participants along with a variety of challenge questions based on the data set. Participants can use any tools they like to answer a variety of questions which range in point value depending on degree of

difficulty. These challenges are designed for all skill levels from novice to advanced. We are so excited about the new images and questions that will be released. We can’t wait till you see what we have in store!

What’s new this year?

This year we are excited to bring you the option to compete as an individual or as a team! Compete as a team of 4 or play as an individual! This means we will have the following opportunities to win:

  • Team – First Place
  • Individual First Place
  • Individual Second Place
  • Individual Third Place
  • If a perfect score is not obtained by the end of the Virtual CTF, an additional Individual First to Finish (must not have played as a member of a team)

Capture the Flag Workshop

For those interested in learning tips and tricks for competing in the CTF, Jessica Hyde and Kevin Pagano will be leading a virtual workshop prior to the event to help folks prepare for the CTF. We will share tips and strategies on how to succeed in a CTF event. Be sure to check out this session if you are participating in the CTF. The online session will be on Monday February  10 at 12 pm ET.
