November 30, 2023 Weekly Wireless Wrap-Up

Good afternoon from Washington, DC!  Below you will find this week’s Wireless Wrap-Up; your update on the wireless telecommunications regulatory landscape, important wireless decisions, and more!  Here is your wrap-up:

  • OPEN MEETINGS
    • On 11/22, the FCC released the Tentative Agenda for the December Open Meeting, scheduled for December 13, 2023 at 10:30 AM. The Commission is tentatively scheduled to consider eight items, including a Second Report and Order, Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, and Waiver Order on blocking illegal robotexts, a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on achieving 100% wireless handset model hearing aid compatibility, and a Report and Order updating the FCC’s data breach notification rules.  For more information and to view a copy of the Tentative Agenda, see our post here.
  • DIGITAL DISCRIMINATION
    • On 11/20, the FCC released a Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking adopting rules to prevent digital discrimination of access to broadband. The item was adopted at the November Open Meeting.  For more information and to view a copy of the item, see our post here.
  • SIM SWAPPING AND PORT OUT FRAUD
    • On 11/20, the FCC released a Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking adopting rules to address SIM swapping and port-out fraud. The item was adopted at the November Open Meeting.  For more information and to view a copy of the item, see our post here.
  • SAFE CONNECTIONS ACT
    • On 11/16, the FCC released a Report and Order adopting rules to implement the Safe Connections Act of 2022 and improve access and affordability for communications services for survivors of domestic abuse and related crimes.
