FCC Publishes Mandatory DIRS Reporting R&O in Fed. Reg.

On April 11, 2024, the FCC published in the Federal Register the Second Report and Order (“Order”) mandating that cable communications, wireline, wireless, and interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) providers report their infrastructure status during emergencies and crises in the Disaster Information Reporting System (“DIRS”) when activated and to submit a final report to the Commission within 24 hours of DIRS deactivation.

The Order is effective today, April 11, 2024; however, compliance with section 4.18, Mandatory Disaster Information System (DIRS) reporting for Cable Communications, Wireless, Wireline, and  VoIP providers (the only rule adopted in the Order), is not effective until the FCC receives OMB approval.  Upon receiving OMB approval, the FCC will publish notice of the compliance date in the Federal Register.
